Pat Robertson supports legalization of marijuana.

While public support for legalizing marijuana in this country has been growing for several years now, Pat Robertson just wasn’t on my list of potential legalization advocates, ya know? But there he is, speaking to the New York Times, no less, stating his opinions in unequivocal terms.

Robertson points out that Jesus turned water into wine. And goes on to say, “I don’t think he was a teetotaler.”

Dude. Totally.

Now, he doesn’t go so far as to say that toking up is something that Jesus would want you to do, and I don’t see him telling you that building your own bong is going to bring you closer to the world’s best known carpenter. But he does talk about compassion, and the problems of locking up nonviolent offenders for drug offenses.

Maybe, just maybe, he’d even support those high school kids and their free speech rights with that infamous Bong Hits 4 Jesus sign a while back.
